This month we celebrate Kyle and Bosten's October 23 and 27th birthdays from afar!
Monday was sunny but breezy. Missionaries loved the banana cake as they call it. Lee took the van to the crash shop and emailed the accident report into Stu in the Sydney church offices.
Tuesday Sister Hannan and I worked on President Carter's project from several weeks ago. It is 5 1/4 sheets, each a different color, with scriptural references listed for topics from each lesson in Preach My Gospel. After President scanned the originals and aligned them on the computer, Sister Hannan tweaked them a bit before printing 200 of each, then I cut all day long, and we started laminating late in the afternoon Wednesday.
Lee delivered English language training material to an Elder in Hectorville before meeting the Whites in Oaklands Park to move Elders from one flat to another. They finished for him to be home for lunch but he called shortly after leaving the office to ask me if his wallet was on his desk? I searched the desk, our car, the car park, the shed, around where the trailer is usually parked, then I walked home and searched the flat with a constant prayer in my heart.
Lee prayed as he searched the silver van, called Hectorville to have them check around in their driveway etc, called me to search, then he finished moving and 3 hours later, searched everywhere again. It was a tender mercy to finally find the wallet and we prayed with thanks all afternoon.
Sister Carter came to the office to see samples of the crocheted edged bookmark project she wants us to make for the sister's Christmas luncheon 1 Dec. We all liked the same sample so I demonstrated the edge and she went home to practice.
President Carter and the assistants were in his office from 10-3:30 planning transfers. Lee grabbed lunch and brought it in for them.
Wednesday the Whites and Sister Hannan went cleaning at the vacated flat with 4 missionaries after their district meeting. That means they didn't even start until 12:30. I spent the day using the paper cutter and finished cutting all 1000 pieces, then started laminating and trimming until I ran out of sleeves. We were supposed to have copy paper and laminating sleeves next day delivered that afternoon but they didn't show up.
President and the assistants finished transfer planning, but the assistants were preparing for Thursday's MLC meeting and were in the office the rest of the afternoon into evening.
Danny attended English class on Calling your Boss and Getting a Loan.
Thursday all of the zone leaders and sister trainer leaders came by the office before or after MLC. They are really an amazing bunch of young men and women and I love their devotion to God as evidenced by their happy, selfless efforts to bring people to Christ.
The laminating pouches were delivered Thursday afternoon. Perfect timing! President sent his October Zion Rescue article so now, I was only waiting for the assistants article. I entered Baptisms into the computer (automatically sends to SLC) and printed new member letters.
By Friday morning the assistants had worked out logistics so I could book transfer travel by plane, bus, and ferry. It's a public holiday Monday so costs were higher than usual, fewer seats were available, and schedules were adjusted for the holiday. It all worked out though.
Lee spent the morning pressure washing the sidewalks at the mission office and mission home. It was unbelievable how much it cleaned and improved the look of things. He started that task after meeting the bike delivery at 8:15 am and helping John install pedals and handle bars on the 11 new bikes.
After a late lunch, I was updating the telephone roster and noticed a missionary transfer that wasn't on the travel list. The assistants said it was a good catch so I was able to schedule another plane and bus. Printed the last page of the Zion Rescue and stapled the 4 sheets together to sort by area and zone Monday.
We were both beat Friday night.
Saturday we had been invited on a road trip with the Hannans, so after abbreviated face timing (although we started early since Shelby woke us at 5:30 AM with GOOD NEWS, which means we have another October birthday in the family!) we set out at 8:30 AM. We drove through the country side to Strathalbyn, where an uncle of Sister Hannan's had settled in the the 1800s. We were looking specifically for a grist mill he had built and for which they had an approximate address. We found a policeman in a small town and he was kind enough to have us follow him back to the station where he googled the address and printed out detailed maps. We found the possible homestead home, and finally saw the old mill in the middle of a paddock. No one was home so we couldn't get permission to pass through gates to the property to explore the mill. It was a beautifully sunny day with a HOT breeze and we tried getting closer using an alternate road, but there were gates and a sandy lowland that we were hesitant to cross. Hannans left contact information at the house and will hopefully make another trip in the future.
By then it was close to noon so we headed toward Victor Harbor for lunch, a beautiful beach town on the Fleurieu Peninsula in the Indian Ocean. We drove through several small towns such as Goolwa on the Murray River, Middleton, Port Elliott (Shark reputation), and finally Victor Harbor, which is only 76 kilometers or 47.22 miles from Adelaide, but we definitely took the scenic route.
It was a 3 day public holiday weekend and a bit busy as the day went on, but we had a nice lunch and ice cream for dessert before heading back toward Adelaide. We stopped at a beautiful park up behind the Adelaide oval but by that time a headache was overpowering any scenery or enjoyment so we called it a day.
We arrived home at 4:20 and I went straight into the bedroom to lay down for an hour. Lee immediately turned on the recorded BYU football game and was sick/disappointed/discouraged to learn that BYU quarterback Taysom Hill had a broken leg and the Cougars lost after coming into the game 4-0. BUMMER!
Sunday we were awakened early but had difficulty face timing Shelby because of a poor connection. We talked with Logan and his clan about the day's games and then got ready for church. It was fast Sunday since General Conference is broadcast next weekend in Australia.
The holiday weekend took a toll on the attendance at Sacrament meeting, but few in numbers does NOT mean small in spirit. It was a beautiful meeting with heartfelt testimonies expressed that strengthened my own. Max bore his testimony for the first time and did a wonderful job!
For English class we reviewed what we covered Wednesday night. Sammie, Max, Taylor, Christina and Danny attended.
We rested in the afternoon, and I prepared for the Monday morning spiritual thought. We took Hannans with us to the missionary fireside at Marion chapel at 7:00 PM. The Carter girls arrived from the USA and attended the fireside with the Carters even though they had to be totally exhausted! Several new members spoke, there were musical numbers, and the missionaries sang BEAUTIFUL ZION. President Carter spoke, as did the Stake President, President Ellis. Lovely meeting, extremely inspiring, and the perfect end to the sabbath day. Transfers next week!
