Happy 42nd wedding anniversary to us on Monday 28 April 2014! We
received congratulations from all the kids by FaceTime, email, and some
even sang to us!
We arose early to walk Monday after totally skipping transfer week walking schedule. We only did a short route since Lee was desperate for a haircut. Lee had the spiritual thought at our 9:00 am devotional. He also had two repaired cars to pick up and lots of mail after the holiday weekend. We ended up not walking the rest of the week as it rained and rained and rained. Wet and cold all week, much like Oregon.
Two zone leaders, Elders Sexton and Flintoft came in on pday to grab supplies and mail for the zone. They called a bit later and said they'd heard I do haircuts. We arranged a time that afternoon and Lee and I met them at our flat. It took less than an hour to do both haircuts and we walked back to work.
Elder Rapana's mom called me at the office from Queensland and talked for nearly an hour! The Whites and Goodrichs left early so it worked out okay. We closed up shop at 5:00 and the Carter's still hadn't arrived home from Mildura.
At 6:00pm I went to the Whites to do my 4th haircut of the day...Sister White does pretty well with the clippers, so I just reviewed how to clean up around the edges with scissors and comb. They are leaving Wednesday for a week back home to Brisbane to celebrate Sister White's 80th birthday and she has children and grandchildren coming from near and far to the party.
Tuesday was a normal day in the office. Lee was in and out. A ward member brought in a bag of fruit for the Firle sisters, but we all gave them a try. (Well, not everyone since you know Lee didn't touch them.) Fa joe was... I don't know how it's really spelled. They have the consistency of a pear, but are tart at the end of chewing the bite. They fall when ripe and must be eaten soon after.
Wednesday was Firle district meeting in the morning and arrivers training in the afternoon so we saw lots of missionaries. President Yeow's mother brought a container of 30-40 squares of cheesecake for missionaries and they were gone in no time flat! Neighbors gave Lee some home grown persimmons which I shared with missionaries. No thank you from Lee. He took Whites to the airport at noon.
English class went well Wednesday. We had three in attendance.
Thursday was MLC as per the regular 1st Thursday meeting for zone leaders of the ZAAM for training by the assistants and President Carter. We get to see lots of missionaries and love it!
No missionaries came in on Friday and it was quiet.
We had several car accidents in past weeks and a bike accident this week, as well as keys locked in flats, seat belts caught in doors etc. After dinner at home Friday, Lee said, "I bet I get a phone call tonight" and sure enough he got a call at 6:30 from a set of missionaries a few suburbs away saying they saw a missionary car parked in their bike area. Lee knew the plate number of the most recent car taken to the body shop and you guessed it, it was THAT car. How in the world AND why was it driven and parked on the street some distance from the body shop?
Lee went to our office and called after hours to the body shop and amazingly the call was answered. After explaining how and where the car was seen, the guy admitted the owner took it for a parts run. THAT'S pretty hard to believe when everything closes by 5:00 pm and I mean everything! Lee told the guy he was not happy and to have the owner call ASAP which he didn't do, and neither did he answer when Lee called him. Needless to say, we won't be having mission cars repaired there again and Lee will be at their door first thing Monday morning for an apology and explanation.
Saturday Lee left at 7:00 am to take the Carter's to the airport. They flew to Brisbane for the Mission Presidents seminar for the Pacific area Mission Presidents and wives. They are held semi annually, one in state, and one in New Zealand, where the Area Presidency is based. Returned missionaries from the ZAAM looked them up and it was a treat to see group pictures on FB.
We had our usual Saturday morning activities and then went to Tea Tree Mall to check it out. Saturdays everywhere, malls and grocery stores alike, are jammed like a huge pre Christmas rush and I do not enjoy large crowds, crowded car parks, or heavy traffic. We didn't stay long and didn't buy anything.
We missed a huge happening at home as our grandson, Carter, was baptized Saturday, May 3rd in Lehi, Utah. We are celebrating his decision to follow Jesus Christ and be baptized! I won't lie, it's difficult being away for life events such as these.....but we are proud of Carter.
Sunday was fast and testimony meeting which I always love. We had 5 people in the daily dose English class and learned about "the supermarket" and reviewed the 'post office' and 'talking about your health.' The rest of the day was restful. That afternoon, I made Aloha bread (banana with coconut and pineapple) and took it to the office Monday for missionaries to enjoy on pday.
That's the week in a nutshell so until next time.....Happy May!
