Saturday was our preparation day and after walking and
grocery shopping, we planned to drive 20 miles to Port MacDonald and
the ocean one last time before we leave the area. We went there our very
first day with the Judds but weren't able to enjoy it much because of
the wind and rain....the same thing happened this time....we decided not
to go because of the weather, and it was a tender mercy......I was sick
all afternoon with a stomach bug! (last weeks low)
Since September 1st was Father's Day, fast and testimony meeting was scheduled this last Sunday instead. We had a good turnout at church and I love testimony meeting!
Sunday, we were invited to Bec's for lunch at 2:00, and since we don't get out of church until 1, there wasn't much time to prepare anything for pot luck in between. I made a fresh veggie and fruit plate which was a hit. For dessert, we had a chocolate variation of pavlova to enjoy, after chicken mornay over rice and/or quiche as the main event. Bec had invited friends and a new ward member over as well and we really enjoyed being with them.
On our way out after lunch, Bec gave us a Willow Tree statue and card, in which she said she felt like she's known us forever and we will be missed. It touched our hearts and made us feel really good. We love them too and will remember Bec, Georgia, and Elijah forever.
About three weeks ago at church, we met a member who has just moved to Mount Gambier having purchased a local Telstra store, similar to Verizon. He and Lee have been talking internet options for when we get back to Adelaide, so we went to his store Tuesday to discuss it further. Brendan has been so very kind with regard to advice, price, and support which we consider another tender mercy.
Since it is our last week in Mount Gambier, we were invited to Ben and Kiowa's for tea and family home evening Monday night. Mark, an investigator, was also invited, and Kiowa gave the lesson on COUNTING OUR BLESSINGS. Referring to an Ensign article by President Eyring, she challenged us to record our blessings in a journal as he does daily. Developing this habit will increase our awareness and ability to recognize HIS hand in our lives. Kiowa quoted from her late mother's gratitude journal and encouraged us to express more gratitude in our prayers. We love Ben and Kiowa's family and appreciate their friendship and inclusion.
Last night (Tuesday) was correlation meeting with the Bishop where we reported on the road trip and other visits. I took my famous Lemon Jello Cake (see recipe below) with a thank you card for the Bishop and his wife for their kindness and support. We received some last minute follow up assignments from the Bishop to complete in the next day or two before we leave.
Today was Zone training by phone and we invited the other four Elders to meet here to participate with us and sit on soft dining room chairs, rather than be at the freezing church on hard chairs. Lee and I both were asked to bear our testimonies to the zone. Here are highlights:

The
zone leaders took questions/problems, we discussed zone priorities,
they defined being Full Purpose Missionaries, utilizing the
Member/Leader Services reports and the Bishops action list, and we role
played how to do this.
The main training was on
GRACE and we committed to read the article in the most recent Ensign,
page 34, by Brad Wilcox ( FYI, Lindsey's Bishop at BYU ) entitled HIS GRACE IS SUFFICIENT.
We can feel the hastening
of the work as outlined in the Work of Salvation training a few months
ago and Satan is hastening his work too. He will do all he can to
discourage us and feed us False Doctrine, such as "you didn't do that
very well" or " you don't measure up" but DON'T BELIEVE HIM! As stated
in D&C 1:23 "the gospel will be preached by the weak and simple" but
don't despair, We are called by God!
Someone gave this quote which I like.....GRACE IS NOT THE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL, BUT THE LIGHT THROUGH THE TUNNEL.
One
of the zone leaders emphasized what we already know, that Grace is NOT
just available at judgement but is accessible to us everyday now! We are
blessed!
After a closing hymn and prayer, the 6 of us ate mini homemade pizzas, fruit/veggie tray, and lemon jello cake for lunch.
As our seven weeks come to an end here....we have mixed feelings. We love the people and yet, we are excited for our new assignment. On one hand the seven weeks has seemed like forever, on the other hand it went by in a flash! We both feel very grateful for the experiences of our service in Mount Gambier.
LEMON JELLO CAKE
1 yellow or lemon cake mix
1 small box dry lemon jello
4 eggs
3/4 cup oil
34 cup water
Frosting: blend together with a wire whip or mixer
1/4 cup lemon juice
2 cups powdered sugar
With electric mixer, blend cake mix, dry jello, eggs, water and oil for 2 minutes on med speed.
Pour into Pam sprayed 9 x 13 pan and bake 25-30 min or until done in the middle at:
Glass pan @ 325 degrees
Metal pan @ 350 degrees
With a fork gently poke holes into cake immediately upon removal from the oven. Pour and spread over the top the icing you made while the cake was cooking, and it will melt and seep down into the warm cake so be sure the holes go clear to the bottom of the pan. Yum! yum! Enjoy!
