Rain, Bad Things Happen in 3's and a BBQ (wk ending 7 Sept 2014).

September celebrations are all for my dad, Freddie Watson, who turns 86 on the 23 of September! Happy, happy day!

Just when I think SPRING HAS SPRUNG we wake up to rain! Happy Monday!

Lee left at 7:30 am for another airport run since Carters are going to Melbourne all week for the Pacific Area Mission Presidents conference. President Carter was excited because he served in Melbourne while on his mission approximately 36 years ago. He also served in Mount Gambier
FYI, which was a part of that mission then.

The phone rang often Tuesday for referrals and supply requests in Chinese, Nepalese, and another language that started with a K that I'd never heard of, as well as English. I find that so amazing! We LOVE talking with the missionaries and are so blessed to be in the office to have interaction with so many! Showery with sun breaks and chilly! I hemmed two pair of pants for Elder Ataga that night.

Wednesday, Lee and Elder White were out mowing and weeding at 4 different flats. Then Lee made a run to Paralowie after an Elder told him the wrong size bike tubes to send with the zone leaders, who were near the office and could save him a trip. There was a total gong show with a mission home key, the carpet cleaner, and Lee, but it is all sorted out now.

English class was just Danny. Christina had to work in the ice cream shop and Sammie, Taylor, and Max went to the temple with the ward youth temple trip. The temple had a plumbing problem we found out later, so they didn't get to go after all. I worked on repairing Elder Fepulea'i suit pants as well as sewing a button back on his jacket after English class and again Thursday morning after walking.

Went to my haircut appointment at 3pm,  and the hairdresser was home with a sick child. I booked again for next Tuesday. They didn't call to cancel me or say sorry for the inconvenience.

Friday was #2 and #3 of 'bad things happen in threes' for Lee. I already mentioned the lost key, which was #1, then Lee had a 'slip and fall' or should I say 'slip and slide' caused by stepping on a strawberry in the produce aisle at the store. Automatic reflex to keep from falling flat jerked his neck and back.

On the way to the airport to get the Carters, a lady on Lee's left swerved to go around a parked car on the far left and she hit Lee in the rear back side of the van. Lee pulled over to check it out thinking she would pull over too, but the little granny sped on by! Lee got her license plate number but is happy to report there is no dent or scrape, just a black scuff that he thinks will wax out. What a week!

Saturday we spent the whole morning talking with kids, my dad, and Lee's sister by FaceTime.
That afternoon we got a call to rescue a missionary car with a dead battery approx 20-30 kilometers from the office. Lee got the car started and they plan to have a new battery installed Monday. We tried a Mexican place for dinner and enjoyed the burritos. It was a beautifully mild day and it was fun to be out and about!

Sunday: Happy Father's Day in Australia! It was a beautiful sabbath day, inside the church and out. Talks were on Fathers of course. We had a new student in English class from Tehran. He has very good English skills already but it was fun to meet and talk with him. At the beginning of class, we always review what was discussed in Sacrament meeting to be sure they understood the message. We also talked about MEETING YOUR CHILDS TEACHER and reviewed BUYING A CAR with Sammie and Max, who also attended class.

We came home to watch the rest of the BYU/Texas football game and then took a lovely nap. The assistants texted after church to say their tea apptointment cancelled and could they still be invited for dinner? (We invited them for Sunday dinner earlier in the week, but they were already booked) Lee was planning to barbecue burgers, chicken, and salmon to have for lunches etc during the week but we didn't buy burger buns since the Elders weren't coming and we are off of white bread. So we had the meats, although the barbecue wouldn't stay lit because of a stiff breeze, plus we tried a brown rice/quinoa mix, and I made Texas cavier salad, a fruit plate, and steamed broccoli and cauliflower. I knew they started a diet and exercise program this week so we tried to cook healthy for them and they loved it! We discussed favorite scriptures after talking about their families and backgrounds. We truly love serving with these fine missionaries!

The Hannans are doing well in the office and the Carter's are back. We heard from Sister Salazar by email, as well as Elder Bingham and Sister Green by Facebook. School is back in session for all of the grandkids, Lee received a Fathers Day package with treats (thanks for the Jif peanut butter and other supplies), and our children all seem well and happy. We are grateful.

On a sad note, a dear friend in Oregon lost her adult brother to suicide this past week so our prayers and thoughts have centered on them during this difficult time. Please take a moment to give your kids, your brothers and sisters, your parents, or other people you love an extra hug, visit, or phone call to express your love and thanks.
