Sunday night/Monday: Windy torrential rain falling in sheets at
times throughout the day and night. Yuck! The hoodie order was delivered
and alI but one was distributed that very day! I made bookings for
July travel for the Carters. Lee was called to Craigmore, 50 miserable
stormy minutes from the office at rush hour to unlock the boot (trunk)
of the car as a missionary accidentally locked the keys in it :-(
Tuesday more rain, wind, and cold. Sister Goodrich and I did crockpot barbecue chicken sandwiches for 26 for lunch at the Firle zone specialized training. It was convenient having it in the same parking lot as the office so we didn't have far to travel.
Wednesday was English class and we only had Danny and Christina in attendance for "Learning About Hobbies and Shopping at the Auto Parts Store".
Afterward, Elder Fepulea'i and Elder Sexton, who were on trade offs, came in to teach Danny about the Law of Tithing. Danny's response was precious when asked if he and Christina would live the law. He has come so far in his language and also in learning about the gospel that it is humbling to observe the trust in the missionaries and what they teach...that even though it may be a new concept, because it is coming from the missionaries whom they trust, along with his own personal revelation, he was willing to accept and live the teaching. Danny especially has connected with Lee and we shared experiences from our own personal life when we have been blessed by living the Law of Tithing. The Elders are fabulous teachers of the gospel even with the language barrier and we watch in awe.
The assistants have started teaching additional English classes two other nights per week in a slightly different format. There is great interest in the language classes in Adelaide because so many people from other countries migrate to Australia. English classes are very expensive, so to have the opportunity to learn at no cost is extremely appealing. We feel very blessed to be a part of this wonderful program in the church and feel it is another evidence of a loving God providing for his children.
Thursday I woke up early with the same headache I had Wednesday night when I went to bed. Uggghhhh! Since I was awake, I put the chicken in the crockpot to start cooking and we went to the office at the regular time. I was back home again by 10:30 to shred the chicken and Lee drove Sister Goodrich and I to the Craigmore building in Elizabeth to serve lunch at the specialized training for the zone. It went well and we were back to the office by 2:30. Same menu as the previous trainings.
We had a nice surprise later in the afternoon. Elder Flood, a wonderful missionary who went home March12th, was back in Adelaide for a two week holiday and stopped in. It was fun to visit with him about his family, activities, and plans and we hope to see him again before he goes back to New Zealand.
Elder Goodrich went with the assistants to teach Sammie and her friend Taylor since Lee was chauffeuring us and unable to go with them. The really exciting thing that happened was that Sammie and Taylor both committed to baptism! Yaaaaay! Sammie's husband returns from China this weekend and we all hope that he wants to be baptized too. (He's the one they taught in China by Skype). These are exciting times in the ZAAM! (Zion Australia Adelaide Mission)
Friday the Whites were inspecting flats as were the Goodrichs. Sister Baker was alone at the finance desk and Lee was in and out. It was sunny but cool until the late afternoon when it rained again. Goodrichs and Whites had both returned by that time and we were all thankful to be inside, warm and dry.
Harry from Firle Ward gave us family names for the temple so we took Sister Baker and went right after the office closed Friday. Wet again when we came out.
Saturday we face timed the family, cleaned, and shopped in time for me to get a pot of chili in the crock pot before leaving for a Relief Society meeting. Petra did a class on money management, Jill taught about anxiety and stress management, then lunch was served, and after was a fashion class, which I skipped since it was already 2:00. I tried to nap but the phone rang. Lee went teaching with the assistants at 3:30 and we invited them to stay for homemade chili and sour dough bread when they got back at 5. I made dessert for Sunday dinner while Lee was gone.

Sunday sacrament meeting and hymns were about family history and temple work and Christina, Danny, Sammie, and Taylor were in attendance. English class with Danny and Christina covered Christmas, December 25, and reviewed "Talking about Hobbies". During the third hour 5th Sunday class under the direction of Bishop Crosley, we viewed Elder Hallstrom's talk entitled WHAT MANNER OF MEN and Sister Linda K Burton's HELP WANTED: HEARTS AND HANDS TO HASTEN THE WORK from last general conference.
We talked with Lindsey and Shelby by FaceTime after lunch and then had a brief rest before preparing hamburger patties and the works for burgers on the barbecue with Elders Sexton and Flintoft. They did a member missionary lesson with us afterward and it was quite enjoyable to be with them and feel of their great spirit and testimony!
The days are long but the weeks pass quickly according to President Carter. This week seemed especially long and somewhat stressful. Hopefully the kinks will work themselves out as we gear up for transfers in two weeks.
